ROCKnROLLA Guy Ritchie's "New" offering

Well...I got down to th SeOne Club last night for the Private "Premier" of Guy's new film ROCKnROLLA..
Phoned Ray Gange on the way down..David from PSG driving...Ray agreed to meeet us at the venue..
We were entertained outside in the queue by set pieces from the film..actors strolling around getting us into the mood as they played parts from the film..

on entering....The Club is MASSIVE...built in the space under three VERY large tunnels close to Tower Bridge.
They had decked the first hall out with Props/Scenes from the movie..quite impressiveas sundry actors played parts from the film.. the "Pole Dancing" Girls set...very tasty ladies !obviously took the eye..
they also had a free Bar !!..Thank you Guy.

Second Hall was the "Astoria" and "The Gin Riots" were playing..they were the Myspace Band winners...very tight Band though toooo loud and no melodies...
Pay bar in the corner..

Third Hall was the main Cinema area..

We three hombres mooched around taking in the scenes..very mixed bag of people in...few drinks later and time for the show to start...Take your seats...David not being very tall..so we sat on the right Isle 4 rows back from the front..David would have got ta stiff neck you see !...

Long wait...LONG wait until the film came on....

and what a film...Bloody fantastic Soundtrack...VERY loud...but the picture clarity on the screen was absolutely spot on...

The film...well....lets say it is a cut and shut of Lock Stock and Snatch...but with some more obvious humour built in....

Lots of Cap doffing to various styles/Genres...even a double Terminator piece..in a chase scene..Slap stick/stand up/ pantomime/double entendre/...well Guy must have made a collection of all his favourite pieces from his Bestie movies and grafted them together around a loose tale of Dodgy Property developments..a Favourite Painting ..( I kid you not..and possibly the weakest link ((sic)) in the movie)Stolen hush money and a corrupt politician..all based in and around the dodgy side of London...add in Local Gang Boss/ local Scallies/ Gang Bosses Pop Star junkie step son/ Russian Mafia...and sundry hangers on...well I figure it begins to sound a lot like Lock Stock/Snatch eh ?

Well it is like them both...but different..some of the set pieces..the Comedy Violence..and the set piece Comedy situations..the Chase scenes etc ..are all embroidered "Classic Cinema" ...but they seem to work..the film seemed a little over long though not by much...and it was obviously written with the intention of follow ups..as we were informed at the end...

On the whole..well worth the trip...Guy walked into me..so I can claim to have been "Touched" by Madonna's husband "WHOOOPEEDOOO ! "...it was great to catch up with Ray again...and the Beat put a nice line under the whole day with a cracking set ( as usual)..especially as Rankin Roger introduced Rock the Casbah as " This one is for Joe Strummer" where by I stepped forward..showed him my T-Shirt ( a Mecaleroes one actually) and he pointed down at me and smiled in recognition of the daft bloke from Manchester...yeh..nice to be recognised in strange places ...

all over too soon.....long drive home ( Thanks David...but you could have stopped for a bloody Kebab mate ! )...
Bed for 5.00am...and up again at 7.30am for work !!!!

David...cheeky sod phoned me at 12.30....just as he was getting up !!..
God my eyes were sore by then...got home just in time to see my beloved City win on penalties in the EUEFA Cup...so not a bad 36 hours at all really !

ROCKnROLLA..if you liked his previous two..( Not the Madonna vehicle.) you will love this one....looks a bit dated though..Property downfall etc...Pity it took so long to get a Distribution deal... Yes...Go and see it...expect a sort of ..

"Carry-On Gangster " type film...not to be taken too seriously.

ps

The folow up should be interesting...with the delay on Distribution..there are a healthy amount of Actors in the film that have moved on and up...getting them back might be a problem...Wages wise !!

Star turn has to be the Black Actor..and Best mate of One -Two (both part of the Local scallies..The Crazy Gang..an Homage to Vinnie Jones).who steals EVERY scene he is in...

and my oh my does Thandie Newton look cute...VERY Cute.

Go and see it...see if you agree with me.

www.ru-a-rocknrolla.com

www.myspace.com/rocknrollamovie

Forum: Culture Central

Joe's 1st ever recorded song...Help needed

Good evening and welcome. Not sure which section to put this in but I have a cassette tape of my band playing a recent house gig and i'd like to convert it to CD so I can send it out with our EP, I don't have the right wires etc to convert it and don't have a tape recorder so I can't do it myself.

If anyone can help out in return I will do you a CD copy of Joe's first ever recorded song (Crummy Bum Blues, from Newport 1974) and a Vultures instrumental (also from 1974). Neither are circulating and i've promised to make no more than 3 copies, i've made 2 copies all ready.

Cheers

Forum: Joe Strummer Main Forum

Tuxedomoon to play an exclusive show in NYC!

Wow! This is for real!!!

Myspace bulletin:
Usually more visible along the coast of the Mediterranean or the Baltic, legendary band Tuxedomoon will be making a rare appearance stateside in New York City for one show only at Le Poisson Rouge - a brand new multimedia art cabaret founded on the former site of the historic Village Gate.

Don't expect to see them repeat poses from their youth as Tuxedomoon seldom look back and, if so, more often than not, choose to refine and distort their past in terms concurrent with their muses of the moment. No room for '80s nostalgia here, their recent compositions feature a wide and surprising variety of styles, influences and themes gathered along their varied journey through space and time. Appearances of Tuxedomoon in the USA are unusual occurrences, there having been only 4 others in the last 21 years.

If you're in that part of the world, come witness this unique event.

Tuxedomoon, Gutbucket,
Wednesday September 17 at 10pm

(Le) Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker Street, New York, NY 10012
www. lepoissonrouge. com / 212.505.FISH phone / 646.478.9197 fax

As a reminder... Tuxedomoon's latest releases are the new "Vapour Trails" album and the "77o7 : 30th Anniversary Box" limited-edition set (containing 3CDs + 1 DVD, incl. Vapour Trails, a wealth of previously-unreleased audio & video material, and a live CD recorded in 2007). Both came out in February 2008.

Press quotes on "Vapour Trails":

"As vibrant and inventive in their 30th year as they were when they first came together in the late Seventies" (The Independent, UK)

"A rich seam of cinematic rock somewhere between the Bad Seeds and Calexico" (Uncut, UK)

"An astounding album, art rock in its purest, most compelling form" (Record Collector, UK)

"Tuxedomoon at their most melodic and approachable, while still being experimental" (Mojo, UK)

"If anything, their playfully adventurous soundscaping imagine Weather Report jamming with Can seems better suited to the modern world" (Q, UK)

"Vapour Trails is, quite simply, the best album they've ever produced. It comprises everything that makes the group a special proposition A crucial set from a group who operate entirely on their own terms. Cherish them." (The Wire, UK)
Forum: Music in General
