Taking my husband (and his siter and brother-in-law) as a surprise retirement gift to Lawai Beach Resort end of April '09.  What will the weather be like and how will we fare without air conditioning?  Most interested in the beach and pools.  Is the resort clean?  1st time in Hawaii.  Recommendations??

Thanks.

Aloha,

I just wanted to say we really enjoyed our stay at the resort. We stayed in the Likalani Building, there were 6 of us in all and we didn't feel a bit crowded. This room has a very nice layout and the staff were very friendly.
There is construction going on behind the unit but it wasn't to bad, although I'm glad they do get weekends off...
Security drives around quite often which really made me feel safe...
And I found the locals to be the friendliest people we've ever met.
There's a hot dog place in the Poipu Shopping Village called Puka Dog, I read about this place and was a little unsure about it in the begining, but I must say it was awesome and the cheepest meal we had. The shrimp van had great shrimp too ( they're usually open from 11-2)

While we were there we went to the Hyatt's Luau, a little pricey but really worth it. I  don't recommend doing it the first night , There is a 5 hr time difference between there and here and we were all really hungry and tired by the time it started.
The next day we took a drive to the north shore and did a little snorkling at Tunnels Beach, while there, we were able to see some sea turtles, after a while we drove rest of the way to Ke'e Beach to watch the sun set, while there, we were able to see a monk seal and met some locals that showed us the first hula grounds on Kauai. There is a hiking trail as well, we didn't do a lot of it but there are some amazing views from up there. ( after sun set  you'll need insect repealent)
The last day we took Capt. Andy's sun set dinner cruise, a lttle pricey as well but it was a great ending to a great trip and the best way to watch the sun set.

My husband and I are coming in 2 weeks to Lawai Beach Resort for our 2 week stay.  We always extend it for a few days at the end.  Last year we were there for 4 weeks for our 25th anniversary. It still never seems long enough!  We have been owners in the Banyan since 1996.  We can't wait to arrive.  The staff is always warm and makes you feel like "Ohana".

We stayed in the Ali'i building recently & LOVED the LBR.  The staff was prompt to fix any problems that arose.  Most of all, the location felt secluded, yet a short drive or walk to some key places.  The resort was quiet during evening hrs.  GORGEOUS view from our lanai.  Construction only happened during the day--when we were out exploring the island (plus, if you're traveling there from the mainland, you'll be waking up well before the roosters or the construction).  I've read complaints about dust from the construction going on behind the resort, however, they have erected a tall wall of material to keep the dust from blowing into the LBR.  I would recommend attending the resort's island activity orientation--we won 1/2 off a really fun activity (saved us almost $200)!  We were so comfortable in our condo unit & were sad no units were for sale--this is a great resort!

I have been staying at the Lawai Beach Resort since my parents became 'whole unit owners' of #1314 in the Alii Building way back in 1992.
This trip is bittersweet as we have decided to put our place up for sale.
The property is a cherished member of our family and has provided us with many years of wonderful times, not to mention the outstanding vacation rental investment it has produced.
Hoping all of you enjoy your stay here. How can you not?
If you are looking for a primary residence or a great investment here at the resort, feel free to give me a call. 742-6369

Kaui has the best solar conditions in the world, why not heat the pools with solar panels, and a solar blanket...Propane is outrageous and not environmentally..
We love the resort and staff.

Why not solar voltaic with Kaui electric 3-4 times higher than anywhere else.

Our favorite place in Hawaii --

My wife and I bought on our honeymoon 14 years ago -- and thought it would be a great property to trade.  Well, I think we traded once way back when, and won't go anywhere else now.  We've stayed at the Hyatt, Mariott and Princeville Resort and more on Kauai.  We've been many places on Maui, Lanai, Oahu and the Big island.  LBR is now the standard.  Some places are nicer, ritzier, better appointed, but none more relaxing and comfortable.

We started as just a couple, and now have three pre-teen kids.  LBR has fit our needs all the way.  Following our lead, my in-laws have bought ~5 weeks on the island (at the marriott), and my mom has bought at LBR.

First of all, it's the best sunset in the world.

Snorkling's great.  The Beach House is nice.

There's plenty of great restaurants, which aren't too hard to find.  Other favorite low-key places to eat . . . Hamura Saimin is simply the bomb! a total dive in Lihue, but the best noodle soup you'll ever have.  Breakfast at Joes at the Kiahuna Golf Club is fabulous.  Take out lunch at Koloa Fish Market may mean you go nowhere else the rest of the trip.  Puka Dog is fun.  Waimea Brew Pub is a great stop on the way to or from the canyon -- make sure you take a brief walk out toward the beach.

While all the views are remarkable -- here's a few to make sure you hit:  Go to the top of the canyon 3-5 miles past the state park, and take the 1-2 mile walk down the road to the rim of the canyon dividing waimea canyon from the Napali Coast; brave the dirt road and go to barking sands beach; up north check out the end of the line Kee beach (sp?).

See you in March '08!

The vacation was excellent, and very fun. The resort is beautiful, and tropical. I sure had a wonderful time at your resort.

Ps: When me and my family were leaving to go back home, I left my orange folder in room 3109. The orange folder is under the chair in the room with twin beds or any other place it could be. If any of the staff members find a orange folder with sheet music on the front, could you please email me, and please mail it back here in Illinois. I would truly appreciate if my folder is located and mailed back to where I live.

My wife and I, daughter, son-in-law, and grandson just visited a couple of weeks ago. We own 2 weeks and frequently visit all the way from South Carolina. Sorry, but you Californians have it easy  . As always, we enjoyed it so much. My grandson (18 months) especially enjoyed running around the grounds and at sunset. I passed pictures of our trip around to co-workers, and several people have asked me about Hawaii, and Lawai in particular. I can proudly tell people to stay at Lawai for the best in Hawaiian beauty, graciousness and Alooooooooha.

My wife and I purchased two weeks in Lika Lani at LBR after just walking by the complex.  After staying there for two weeks we are in the process of closing on purchasing another deeded two weeks.  That says it all! Very nice accomodations and a well kept up resort.

As to the complaints about noise, the noise is generated by the construction and earth movers just east of LBR where contractors are in the process of developing the huge fields for million dollar housing and a golf course.  It should be quite nice development when completed.  The development is not part of LBR.

Can you tell us which buildings have ocean views, 2 bedroom or one bedroom, etc.?  We have been traveling to Kaua`i for many years and have stayed many different places.   Our favorite place is Kuhio Shores, but unfortunately cannot afford to buy one!
One week is never enough.  Even 2 weeks leaves us wanting more time and tears as we fly out of Lihue!
Mahalo plenty for any info you can give us!

We just returned from a week in the Banyan building and we really loved this resort. Great location, beautiful grounds, and the pools were all different - we hung out at the Banyan and Alilli pools most. My one complaint is about other guests and how clueless they could be about noise just outside of someone's bedroom window. Thanks for recycling, but at 10 PM? or worse, 4 AM! Other than that, Lawai Beach was truly a little slice of paradise. Enjoy! I recommend a late walk in front of the Banyan building - you won't believe the frogs!
If we go back, it would be after the construction at Kukuilua (?) is finished. I'm afraid that the noise is going to deter from the overall experience.

Thank you Lawai Beach Resort! We just returned home to California after a wonderful week at your resort! We couldn't be happier with how our week went. We had a great 1-bedroom ocean view room that fit four of us quite comfortably. 2 of the 4 were even my in-laws, and it was still fine. Your staff was great... the only exception would be our experience in the Rooftop Cafe and the shortage of staff in the rec. room... but we were so busy seeing your beautiful island, swimming in the pool, sitting in the awesome rock-spa, and snorkeling across the street, that we hardly worried about those small issues. My kids loved looking at us on the resort live cam… That’s a great touch! We’d talk to them on the phone and wave to them from the live cams. Thanks again. We’ll visit again as soon as we can!

We just returned from a vacation at LBR.   We had a good time, but I don't know that I would choose this resort again.   We did not find the staff overly friendly and did not sleep well at all due the noise of the security people walking up and down the walk-ways during the night, right next to the bedrooom window.   The construction was also noisy (which I realize the resort can do nothing about).   The resort was clean and the grounds were beautiful, but the stay was somewhat overshadowed by the lack of the "aloha" feeling and the noise.

To all future visitors of Lawai Beach Resort (LBR):

I am a 1st time owner of this resort, and having just completed a one week vacation with family, I must say that we were most thrilled by the accomodations!!  We happened to stay in the unit that I was deeded....Most Impressed!!  The staff from the gardeners, security and front desk staff were very friendly & professional!!  They have a weekly owners meeting to keep all owners abreast as to the upkeep and new development that is under construction behind the resort.  The resort is well organized and well maintained.  Clearly, it's evident that management is concerned  with the needs of the owners and they go out of the way to accomodate all.  The general store has all the basic needs from post cards to snorkel gear. The Beach House restaurant is across the street....God what good food!! to be able to sit and have a Mai-Tai (or 2) and watch the sun set!!  Well worth it!!!  Cannot wait till next year!!!

After reading the last two entries in the guestbook I had to write.  We spent May 12th-May 26th in the Banyan Building.  It was true paradise.  Halfway through our stay our son, daughter and future son-in-law came to stay with us.  This was our kids first trip to Hawaii and for them it was also true paradise.  We are all still going through withdrawals!  To the family that is coming with their two sons, they will be in heaven, while the kids swam and snorkled, my husband and I found shade trees at the various beaches. We did our sight seeing in the mornings and then relaxed by the pool, or ocean in the afternoons.  Mai Tai's on the lanai have never tasted better!  The fresh fish that was bought at the various markets was outstanding.  We shopped at one of the farmer's markets and also the fruit stand not far from the resort on the way to Koala.  The snorkeling right across the street was great.  We traveled twice to Tunnels Beach where our future son-in-law (who has done some extensive traveling) said it was some of the best snorkeling he has ever done.  The general store has all your needs to rent for a day at the beach.  We also saw the Monk Seal at the beach house, we were spending our last morning before heading to the airport sitting at the beach house and the monk seal came ashore while we were there.  Our pictures came out beautiful of it.  The stay at Lawai Beach Resort as said earlier was outstanding.  I could keep going on, but back to work........
To all that will be vacationing there over the next few months, enjoy!  It is truly paradise!!!!!

Questions to LBR or Webmaster Perfect room, Great Poipu Area

Comments:

We just came back from a week stay (5/18-5/25/07) at Lawai Beach Resort and highly recommend it!  We stayed in a second floor 2 bed 2 bath room in the Alii Building.  The tradewinds were great and the rooms allowed you to open windows and let the breeze blow day and night, plus there are ceiling fans throughout.  Never got too hot or too cold.  The Lanai view out of the master bedroom and living room can't be beat!  The beach is right across the street with the best snorkeling we found.  The area is perfect for walks, and water perfect for snorkeling and surfing.  We enjoyed the view of a monk seal (protected species) laying on the lava rock by the beach unbothered for hours in front of the Beach House Restaurant.  We also watched many turtles floating in the surf from the grass area by the Kuhio Shores Condos (across the street) out to the breaking waves not 30 yards from shore.  We miss the sound of the ocean out of our room now that we are home.  The grounds are beautiful, BBQ grills available along with hot tub and pool.  Security guards watch the property and the parking lot so the rooms and beaches felt very safe.  We had four in the room and cooked breakfast and dinner most of the time.  Grocery stores are close by and fresh fruit stands plus fresh coffee was enjoyed.  High Speed internet was available in our room for $39.95 for the week and help with connecting was easy with the educated staff. The island attractions are amazaing and we will definately be back to stay at this resort!

We spent the last 2 wks. in April at LBR--wonderful family time!!  We have owned there for 10 years and can't imagine trading LBR elsewhere.  We know that every other year we'll be back!!  The snorkeling is great, just go across the street before the crowds arrive, & then have breakfast on your lanai. The resort staff is GREAT!!

I booked my reservations for the Lawai Beach Resort for late November 2007.  After seeing some of the entries, I'm pretty confident that I made the right choice to vacation there.  I did notice the big gap of entries so if those who have visited Lawai Beach Resort don't mind giving their reviews, this first time visitor really appreciate it.

I am surprised that there are so few messages on this site!  There must be something good to say about LBR.  We are stuck with 5 weeks every year.  We donate our 5th week to organizations that use it in auctions as a money maker. This will be our 20th year that we will have to suffer at LBR.  People ask us where we trade our weeks off to and we have to tell them that we don't!   Why should we give up an opportunity like this to spend our other 4 weeks at a place where all we have to do is sit on the lani and have a few drinks while we watch the whales in both the ocean and the Alii pool and enjoy some nice hawaiian meals that we fix or find out on the economy.  By the way I am one of them (the whales)!  We can hardly wait to get back to our unit to enjoy everything that there is available and see all of the nice employees that work to make things so nice for us.  There are a lot of people there that really seem to care about keeping the Resort in such nice shape.  I wouldn't mind if this e-mail were posted for our workers to see.  We will be there on 14 April 2007 for our 4 weeks.

there is never a bad time to visit Kauai.  Fall can be rainy but then airfare is often cheaper and beaches less crowded.  A bad day in Hawaii is still better than a good day on the mainland.
